John Preston is a former Arts Editor of the Evening Standard and the Sunday Telegraph. For ten years he was the Sunday Telegraph's television critic and one of its chief feature writers. He is the author of a travel book and four novels. His last novel, A very English Scandal, published in 2017, tells the story of Jeremy Thorpe, former leader of the Liberal party, and sadly famous for being the first British politician to stand trial for murder. BBC 1 announced an upcoming three-part television miniseries based on the novel, with Stephen Frears as director and Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw for the leading roles.
