Laurie Taylor

Laurie Taylor is a broadcaster and sociologist. Laurie’s career began with a stint as a librarian, after which he became a professional actor, then an English teacher before joining the Sociology Department of the University of York, where he went on to become Professor of Sociology. He began his broadcasting career as a regular contributor on Robert Robinson’s Stop the Week, and since 1998, Laurie has regularly presented the discussion programme Thinking Allowed on BBC Radio 4. In addition, he is well known in academic circles for his long-running column in the Times Higher Education Supplement as well as for New Humanist magazine and being a Distinguished Supporter of the British Humanist Association.
